- peace democracy and the rule of law

  • Significant improvements in peace, security and
increase in democratically elected governments on
the continent are a catalyst for economic growth.

Approach

Springstone Capital has an “old fashioned merchant banking
approach”, one where we believe in providing tactical
and strategic support where we ensure client’s long term
interests always come first. Springstone Capital does not sell
products, financial instruments or other services that may
result in potential conflicts of interest with our clients.

Transaction Teams

Each engagement that Springstone Capital undertakes is unique and as a result requires an individually tailored approach and team. As a result, Springstone Capital operates on an open platform approach where it actively looks to collaborate with the most relevant individuals in its network for a particular engagement

Springstone Capital builds teams that typically include experienced transaction and consulting specialists backed up by relevant sector, country or regional experts to deliver the best in class advisory and transaction services. Each Springstone Capital Team will include:

Transaction Partners
– tasked with day to day management of relevant engagement
Consulting Partners
– as required who each have relevant market, industry, process or regional expertise that the Transaction Partner can leverage off; these Consulting Partners are available for engagement with clients as required

Areas Of Strength

Springstone operates primarily in SADC north of the Limpopo but does have experience and networks elsewhere. This area has very limited boutique advisory and private investment firms with serious international pedigree and experience.

Springstone will engage with clients in any jurisdiction as long as we believe that we can add value. So far, this has resulted in a coregeography in which we have our strongest networks and an auxiliary area in which we can very quickly ramp up our networks

Coregeography of expertise covers

Angola
Mozambique
Zambia
Zimbabwe

Auxiliary geography includes

Botswana
Ethiopia
Ghana
Kenya
Malawi
Mauritius
Namibia
Uganda
Tanzania

Unconstrained By Sector Focus

Due to the open platform approach, Springstone Capital is only limited by its networks’ reach in finding relevant Transaction and Consulting Partners to work with. Within the core partners that Springstone Capital is working with currently, there is a wide array of sector experience which includes the following:

AgricultureFinancial ServicesFMCG
Power & EnergyPropertyTechnology

In all proposed engagements Springstone Capital will be focused on its team’s ability to add significant value to the engagement and if we do not believe that we can do so, we will not progress

Private Investment

In a small number of specific situations Springstone Capital may consider converting a short term consulting engagement into a longer term strategic partnership, i.e. one where Springstone Capital would become an investor alongside its clients. Potential approach where Springstone Capital may take a private investment position:

Non-executive /
project-services partnership

Joining client as non-executive directors and/or retained advisors on longer-term project, e.g. through to an exit? allows Springstone to contribute:

  • strategic perspectives drawing on decades on investor and entrepreneur experience
  • an understanding of international standards and expectations on everything from governance to presentation
  • continuonus access to deep regional and international networks, including access to potential funding partners

Private-investment partnership

Joining clients as a co-investor in their ventures is the surest way to ensure long-term alignment of interests. Though Springstone Capital prefers equity acquired in the course of providing consulting services, it will consider other particular circumstances. Springstone Capital is also able to put together a “club deal” whereby Springstone syndicates its investment with trusted associates.
